Learning about Childrens Exercise Games

With kids spending more and more time in front of television and gaming consoles, the cases of childhood obesity continue to grow. The following paragraphs will discuss traditional children’s games that offer an aerobic workout while providing enjoyable entertainment for children.

To do jump rope rhymes, two children hold the ends of a long jump rope and turn it. Another child jumps while the rope turners chant a rhyme. The former continues jumping until he finishes the set number of jumps or fails to do so. At this point another player takes a turn at jumping. The cycle continues until all of the players have had their turn.

In the game of red light/green light, one player will act as the stop light. The remaining players will line up across the field or gymnasium from him. When the latter shouts green light, all the children must then run towards the stop light. If he says red light, they must stop instantly. If anyone is caught in motion after the halt command, he is eliminated from the game. On the other hand, if somebody gets all the way to the stop light and touches him without being called out, he will automatically win the game and become the next spotlight.

When playing freeze tag, one child is the “it” and chases the other children around. If the latter is able to catch another player, the one tagged must automatically freeze on that spot. He must remain in this position until another child crawls through his legs to enable him to rejoin the game. The game will only end when all of the children have been tagged and frozen. The “it” for the next round will be the one who was the last to be caught.
